Zegra in "The Black Pool" (Fox; 1949)

Zegra returns to the Catacombs today in a fun adventure called "The Black Pool" from Zegra, Jungle Empress #4 (Feb.1949); originally published by Fox Feature Syndicate. There are no identified creator credits available. The Catacombs acknowledges "Comic Book Plus" as the source of this classic comic story. Wow. Why didn't Talya listen to Zegra? It's so tragic. No one will ever know what happened to her. I can just imagine a follow up strip where Zegra fruitlessly combs the jungles searching for her lost friend, putting up posters, chasing down leads for years, until she finally winds up drinking her life away in some dingy colonial bar, passing out ever night whispering "Talya...."

Also, "I am slain. My spine bone breaks." is my new favorite comics dialogue. It might even beat out my old favorite "Maybe it was a passing flock of vampire bats."
